Linda Solomon
by Linda Solomon
I have received a small outcry over my article, "The Future as We Sometimes Imagine It." I was fairly asked to make it clear that Cortes Island has a small population and a small food supply. Much of the food is shipped in from off island. During the winter, supplies are sparse. The scenario I wrote about was based on fantasy, not reality. Apologies to those who felt I invited Vancouverites to raid Cortes. I certainly didn't intend to do that. If I unintentionally did that, consider the invitation rescinded.
Survivalism

Relax, Linda. I would say nearly everyone living on any of the small islands of the BC south coast, and keeping up with the world news, occasionally have these "what if.." fantasies. Perhaps singling out Cortes is a mistake, as it is by no means unique or special, and would not survive for long as a bastion of benevolent green in a surging sea of grey. The brief history of "civilization" has been quite consistent in this regard, as any member of a First Nation would remind us.
