In a reflection of the depth of the homelessness and addiction crisis facing Vancouver, 1 in 4 beds at St. Paul's hospital are now occupied by people who are homeless, have a mental health issue, or have some type of addiction. To respond, doctors from St. Paul's are now doing visits to Downtown East Side buildings in an attempt to treat people, preventing use of emergency health care.
